SUMMARY:Introduction to Stuctured Literacy Elementary Level
DESCRIPTION:Participants will learn a structured literacy approach to teaching reading\, aligned to the Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS; Cowen\, 2016). IDA defines KPS as “the knowledge and skills that all teachers of reading should possess to teach all students to read proficiently.” Structured Literacy is explicit\, systematic teaching that focuses on phonological awareness\, word recognition\, phonics and decoding\, spelling\, and syntax at the sentence and paragraph levels and includes morphology\, vocabulary\, and fluency development. \nAudience: Elementary school teachers in general education or specialeducation\, literacy coaches\, administratorsLength: 3 day workshopPresenter/s: Molly BrickerDates: June 23-June 25\, 2025Time: 8:30am-3:30pmCost: $675 \nNOTE: The two days directly following this 3 day course\, Aprendo Leyendo\, a Spanish language reading program will be taught as a follow up for dual language programs. \nOutcomes \n\nParticipants will learn a structured literacy approach to teaching reading\, aligned to the Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS; Cowen\, 2016).\nParticipants will learn how to implement daily evidence-based explicit\, systematic\, diagnostic\, and multisensory reading instruction.\nParticipants will have more knowledge to begin implementing a program with resources necessary for small group and/or whole class instruction.\n\nAttendees who complete the training will have the knowledge and skills to complete the KPEERI exam and apply for the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). (Note: The approved IDA course is 5 days of instruction). Molly is an associate with the Association of Educational Therapists and the Orton-Gillingham Academy. She is working to become an Orton-Gillingham Fellow. Additionally\, Molly runs her own educational therapy practice in Los Angeles. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter\, reading\, and playing pickleball.

SUMMARY:Dysgraphia: Writing Within [Between] the Lines
DESCRIPTION:Do you have students struggling to get their thoughts on paper and when they do their writing is almost illegible? This one day workshop will provide participants with an understanding of dysgraphia through engagement in interactive activities\, group discussions\, and practical application. She holds a Masters in occupational therapy from San Jose State University and a bachelors in Exercise Science from Fresno State and has a dual elementary education and mild/moderate special education credential. Lisa has worked at Chartwell for 5 years as the lead occupational therapist\, and previously worked in a pediatric outpatient setting. \nPrior to Chartwell\, Lisa was a Resource Specialist and case manager for 5 years in a middle school in Sanger\, CA. In addition to overseeing executive functioning at Chartwell\, being an instructional coach\, and providing individualized OT services to small groups of students (1st-12th grade)\, she provides instructional workshops to teachers and families that focus on sensory processing\, classroom accommodations\, executive functioning\, social emotional learning\, driver readiness\, and fine and visual motor skills.
