SUMMARY:Elementary Structured Literacy: Kinder to 2nd Grade Focus
DESCRIPTION:This two-day workshop builds upon the foundational knowledge of Structured Literacy introduced in the 3-day Introduction to Structured Literacy course. Designed specifically for educators working with kindergarten through second-grade students\, this class delves deeper into the techniques and strategies for teaching reading foundational skills (Phonemic Awareness\, Phonics\, and Fluency) using a structured literacy lesson plan and is aligned with the Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS; Cowen\, 2016). \nThrough hands-on practice\, educators will gain confidence in creating engaging\, research-based lessons tailored to the needs of early elementary learners. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have the tools and experience to deliver high-quality instruction that supports all students in developing strong foundational reading skills. \nREQUIRED PREREQUISITE: Introduction to Structured Literacy (3 Day) \nAudience: K-2 classroom school teachers in general education or special education\, literacy coaches\, administratorsLength: 2 day workshopDates: June 19 to June 20\, 2025Time: 8:30am-3:30pm \nBy the end of this two-day workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nDevelop and implement Structured Literacy lesson plans tailored to K-2 students\, incorporating explicit\, systematic instruction in phonological awareness\, phonics\, decoding\, spelling\, and fluency.\nPractice and refine instructional strategies through hands-on activities\nGain strategies to adapt Structured Literacy instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of early elementary students\, supporting foundational reading skills for all learners.\n\nAttendees who complete the training will have the knowledge and skills to complete the KPEERI exam and apply for the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). (Note: The approved IDA course is 5 days of instruction). She has aided numerous readers in realizing their potential using the Orton-Gillingham and Structured Literacy methods and continues to support burgeoning readers.

She is also working to become an Orton-Gillingham Fellow.
