SUMMARY:Morphology Part 2 (Online)
DESCRIPTION:This interactive 1.5-hour virtual workshop invites educators to delve into the role of morphology in unlocking students’ spelling and vocabulary potential. Participants will examine how morphological instruction can enhance students’ comprehension of word structure\, enabling them to make sense of complex words more effectively. \nPart 2 of a 2 part series\, reviews the concepts of morphology and the steps of Structured Word Inquiry (SWI). Educators will practice three key suffixing rules\, gaining clarity as to when these conventions apply—and when they do not. Through hands-on practice with word sums\, word matrices\, and a suffix-checking diagram\, participants will develop strategies to effectively teach these conventions\, empowering students to analyze and understand the structure of words with confidence. \n* This is Part 2 of a 2 part series. It is suggested you attend Part 1 on Thursday\, January 30\, 2025. \nAudience: Elementary literacy teachers\, middle school literacy teachers\, instructional coaches\, literacy coaches\nLength: 1.5 hours\nPresenter: Meghan Sanchez \nOutcomes\n\nRecognize how morphology instruction can improve students’ spelling\, vocabulary\, and understanding of the English language\nPractice using morphological tools and routines to help students understand the meanings of various affixes and bases\nExplore 3 suffixing conventions using morphological tools like word sums\, word matrixes\, and suffix-checking diagrams\n\nTopics\n\nWhat is morphology?\nImportant Vocabulary of SWI\nSuffixing Rules Using Morphology\nAdditional Morphology Resources\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Teacher Bio\nMeghan Sanchez is a Teacher Training Consultant with Chartwell Teaching Institute (CTI).
