SUMMARY:Structured Literacy Clinic
DESCRIPTION:The Structured Literacy Clinic is a practicum style course for educators who have completed the Introduction to Structured Literacy course and are looking to deepen their knowledge and practice of structured literacy. Participants will gain a deeper knowledge of structured literacy practices\, multisensory techniques\, advanced phonics concepts\, and have an opportunity to plan for and implement structured literacy lessons within a small group setting. Participants in the Structured Literacy Clinic will be provided with individualized support and feedback throughout this process. This practical implementation course in structured literacy will give teachers\, special educators\, and tutors the confidence they need to fully implement a structured literacy program with their students.  \nAudience: Elementary school teachers\, special education teachers\, literacy coaches\, and tutorsPrerequisites: Introduction to Structured LiteracyLength: 5-day clinicPresenter/s: Jodi Amaditz\, Chantel Touryan-Schaefer\, Meghan Sanchez\, and Molly BrickerDates: July 7 to July 11\, 2025Time: 8:30am-3:30pmCost: $1\,250 \nOutcomes \n\nParticipants will review the foundations of the  structured literacy approach to teaching reading\, aligned to the Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS; Cowen\, 2016).\nParticipants will learn how to implement daily evidence-based explicit\, systematic\, diagnostic\, and multisensory reading instruction.\nParticipants will plan\, implement\, and reflect on structured literacy lessons within a small group setting. \n\nAttendees who complete the training will have the knowledge and skills to complete the KPEERI exam and apply for the Structured Literacy Classroom Teacher Certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). (Note: The approved IDA course is 5 days of instruction). She holds a masters degree as a Reading Specialist from Columbia University Teachers College. Jodi taught as a learning specialist in New York City elementary schools and as a reading specialist and special education teacher in Westchester New York Public middle schools for twenty years. She is a certified Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator and holds a Structured Literacy Classroom Educator certificate from the Center of Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). Jodi is the coordinator for Chartwell’s UCSF Dyslexia Phenotyping and Outcomes partnership and has lead workshops for The Orton Gillingham Association (OGAPE)\, the California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI)\, the Indiana Literacy Cadre\, and Learning and Brain. Chartwell’s Structured Literacy 5 Day Workshop is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Chantel Touryan-Schaefer\nChantel Touryan-Schaefer was a first-grade classroom teacher for 14 years before following her passion for reading instruction to become a Reading Specialist. \nChantel is a Reading Specialist and Certified Dyslexia Advocate in California and is working toward her CALT certification. She has aided numerous readers in realizing their potential using the Orton-Gillingham and Structured Literacy methods and continues to support burgeoning readers. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Meghan Sanchez\nMeghan Sanchez is a Teacher Training Consultant with Chartwell Teaching Institute (CTI). Meghan brings 10+ years of experience to the classroom and prior to this role\, was a homeroom teacher at Chartwell for the last two years. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Haverford College in Haverford\, PA and a dual Masters in Elementary Education and Special Education from Lesley University in Cambridge\, MA. Meghan served as the director of academic support and as academic dean at Lake Tahoe Preparatory School. Meghan has taught students of all ages\, ranging from PreK-4 to high school\, and has also supported new educators as a graduate assistant with Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Additionally\, Molly runs her own educational therapy practice in Los Angeles. Molly is an associate with the Association of Educational Therapists and the Orton-Gillingham Academy. She is also working to become an Orton-Gillingham Fellow.
