Math word problems make up roughly half of standardized math questions, yet students lag in terms of reading comprehension and literacy. This workshop will explore the link between literacy and mathematics in contextual problems and provide actionable strategies to support students.

Discover how purposeful read-alouds, discussion routines, graphic organizers, and sentence-level writing can work together to strengthen students’ academic learning, language development, comprehension, and connection to text across K–8 classrooms.
